"It is my great privilege to walk along side my students and to use my experience, skills and expertise to help people become confident, strong and self-assured individuals who have come to realize their potential and tap into their God-given talents and abilities.  It brings me great joy to see the student who was once bullied now standing up for him/herself; the student who was acting out in the classroom demonstrate self-control and the bully who learns that he does not have to be mean to others for self-value.  It also motivates me who seeks to better themselves both mentally and physically by adding martial arts to their training program.  Finally, we are a family centered academy and it brings us great joy to see parents and children connecting on the mat, doing this activity together where they find common ground, shared enthusiasm, mutual desire to learn and laugh together."

"I am happy to assist our academy instructors, lead classes, and work one-on-one with students who are learning to find their voice.  I joined the New Richmond Academy in March of 2016 with my whole family.  I have seen the benefits of discipline, self-control, and confidence for my sons, and have been blessed to join-in with my wife, Cortney.  I’ve been inspired to continue my own black belt journey, and I look forward to point many more children and adults the balance of activity, discipline, and fun that Kyuki-Do has to offer.

I like to learn the names and interests of all our academy members.  I’m happy to promote the family feel and sense of belonging that all families look for when they commit to positivity and growth.  I hope to model the tenets of Kyuki-Do as an example for others, and I love to laugh along the way.

When you’re on the mat with me, you’ll see my passion for forms, weapons, and grappling.  You’ll hear me share my personal Kyuki-Do mottos: “Gravity Wins!” and “Pil Sung!”  When you’re off the mat with me, you’ll see my love for people, good food, a heart of mercy, and prayerfully, good stories!

I am blessed to be Cortney’s husband, Noah and Josiah’s dad, a faith leader in the New Richmond community, Starr Elementary Mentor, coffee and tea enthusiast, amateur griller, music lover, and avid writer!"

"I love to see the transformation of students, young and not so young, as they go from tentative and shy beginners to confident classmates eager to share what they have learned."

My journey in Kyuki-do started with my son.  He was interested in trying martial arts so he enrolled in a local Community Ed program.  He absolutely loved the classs so we searched out local academies and found Kyuki-do.  Our family joined in 2010 and have been members ever since.

At first my goal was to spend some quality time with my children, and to get some great exercise myself.  As we progressed, the challenge became learning all the different requirements for each color rank advancement.  One of my best moments was such a simple thing.  I never believed when I started that I would be able to throw a kick above my head.  The day in class when I realized I was kicking that high consistently was a stunning day.  That one achievement motivated me more than I can say.  My journey became more than just working towards my Black Belt.  It became a part of my life. A part that will continue for as long as I can step on the mat.

In 2016 I joined the Delta Team.  I enjoyed helping out in class and sharing what I had learned.  I felt a lot of gratitude to the instructors who shared their time and knowledge with me, and wanted to give back as well.  I began assisting during class and progressed to become an instructor.  It is fantastic to see the look on students faces when they succeed at a technique that you know they have struggled with for a  period of time. I love to see the confidence each student gains both on and off the mat.  I also enjoy seeing the camaraderie between students, young and old, as they share their experiences in Kyuki-Do. We are a family.

"My martial arts journey started when I was 15 years old.  I attended an academy in Milwaukee and took a break when I went off to college.  15 years later, I decided to enroll my entire family in martial arts, knowing what types of benefits people of all ages can experience.  Different martial arts promote different disciplines, but what I have personally experienced is all martial arts encourage personal growth both mentally and physically, they support camaraderie on and off the mat, and they teach valuable life skills for all ages.

Over the years, martial arts has shown me that my mind is truly my only limit, and I strive to continuously challenge myself and others to go outside of our comfort zones- the place where growth truly happens.  I have been a DELTA member since 2016, growing alongside students as an instructor and a fellow student.  Each of us has talents and abilities that can bless others, and martial arts is a great way to develop these skills and find new passions within."

"My family joined Kyuki-Do in April of 2010 and I was in a walking boot sitting on the sidelines watching my, at that time, six kids and wife enjoy martial arts training. I wait five months before getting a medical ok to join martial arts from my doctor. I had always liked martial arts and been a big fan but had never had the opportunity to train until that September.  I fell in love with both the training and the camaraderie that I found in the Kyuki-Do family of students and staff.

A few months after getting my black belt I was approached with the opportunity to help teach a few classes. I agreed and never looked back. It has been my pleasure to instruct and watch our students grow in self-confidence, self-control, and start the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment of the martial arts and self-defense.

I believe that given the opportunity to train in an uplifting environment, each student will reach his or her goals. The journey is different for each student but it’s the time walking the path that instills in each of us the values that are a corner stone Kyuki-Do:
  • Courtesy
  • Humility
  • Integrity
  • Perseverance
  • Self-Control
  • Indomitable Spirit
